Welcome to The Rag and Bone’s vintage fashion blog!

Through this first blog post we will introduce The Rag and Bone, the purpose of this blog, ourselves, and future blog topics.

The Rag and Bone

What started as a love of vintage fashion blossomed into a prosperous business.  For the past 17 years, Shelley Banker, The Rag and Bone’s owner, has been giving beautiful vintage items a second life.  These items include men and women’s clothing, hats, jewelry, and even records!  During her successful career, Shelley has developed an eye for quality vintage clothing allowing her to choose the very best items to sell in her boutique.

State College, Pennsylvania locals bring their gently worn or used items to The Rag and Bone to sell.  Depending on the condition of the item, The Rag and Bone will purchase it from the patron, make any repairs (if necessary), clean the item, and mark it for sale in the boutique and through the online store.  Apart from receiving her vintage pieces through buying from local residents, Shelley also travels to wholesalers and dealers in order to find more unique merchandise to be sold at The Rag and Bone.

Blog Purpose

Why would three students with unrelated majors and no vintage fashion background create a blog about vintage fashion? 

As part of our English 202D Business Writing class, our group has been tasked with helping a local business improve its business communications.  A fashion blog is one of the deliverables we have chosen to complete this project.  We are creating, researching, and managing this blog to help The Rag and Bone gain more foot traffic and repeat customers.

Because we do not have fashion backgrounds, we will be researching each topic and working in conjunction with The Rag and Bone and YOU, the loyal customers, to produce interesting blog topics about vintage clothing and merchandise.  Through this blog we aim to improve our knowledge of vintage clothing and accessories and hope to peak your interest as well.  We are very excited about this opportunity and wish to share it with you!
